Building sustainability is more than just a passion for Jeremy Beresford, it’s his day job.

Jeremy is the director and sole owner of Berecon – a residential building and shop fitting company specialising in sustainable and environmentally friendly houses and structures.

Coming from a family of builders, it was inevitable that Jeremy would one day go into the industry, however establishing his own business was no easy feat. Having worked on construction sites as a labourer for a few years, Jeremy was experienced in rendering, concreting and shop fitting, but always knew that he wanted to become builder.

As a qualified carpenter, Jeremy had completed his Certificate III in Carpentry with Careers Australia, but was quick to enrol into the Diploma of Building and Construction to get himself closer to his career goal.

After graduating from his Diploma course, Jeremy worked as a contractor to gain practical experience and to see firsthand how to operate a building company. Jeremy received his builder’s licence in October and soon after Berecon was established.

“Studying with Careers Australia empowered me to start my own business. I’m now happier than I’ve ever been,” said Jeremy.

“I’m my own boss, work my own hours and only I’m responsible for developing the reputation of my company,” he said.

“I have a number of exciting projects on the books at the moment and I’m stoked to be doing them my way.”

Testament to the quality of apprentices delivered by Careers Australia, Jeremy has recently indentured his own apprentice, who is completing a carpentry apprenticeship training with Careers Australia and practical components via workplace delivery on job sites with Berecon.

“Having the trainers that I had, to their standard, I know my apprentice is receiving the best training. They provide real life experience and have a great understanding of the industry. It really was the best decision I made.”
