Careers Australia has partnered with PNG LNG corporations to deliver construction training in the Papua New Guinnea Highlands
DEC 2011 | Exxon Mobil and CBI-Clough have appointed Careers Australia to provide construction training and skills development to local workers in preparation for the $1 billion Hides Gas Conditioning Plant in Papua New Guinnea.
The Hides Gas Conditioning Plant is a part of the massive Papua New Guinea Liquefied Natural Gas (PNG LNG) project which is an integrated development incorporating gas production and processing facilities in the Southern Highlands and Western Provinces and storage facilities in the northwest of Port Moresby. Once fully operational, the development will have an output capacity of 6.6 million tons of LNG per year, transported through more than 700 kilometers of pipelines which will cumulatively cost around $15 billion to construct.
Careers Australia program will provide PNG nationals with basic health and safety, sustainability and construction skills, awarding graduates with a formal qualification which is globally recognised through the Australian Quality Training Framework - Certificate II in Civil Construction.
The Hides Gas Conditioning Plant alone will create around 1,200 new jobs in construction, many of which will be filled through this program.
The PNG LNG Project includes gas production and processing facilities, onshore and offshore pipelines and liquefaction facilities. Participating interests are affiliates of Exxon Mobil Corporation:
- Esso Highlands Limited (operator) - 33.2%
- Oil Search Limited - 29.0%
- Independent Public Business Corporation (PNG Government) - 16.6%
- Santos Limited - 13.5%
- Nippon Oil Exploration - 4.7%
- Mineral Resources Development Co. (Landowners) - 2.8%
- Petromin PNG Holdings Limited - 0.2%
