Careers Australia has established a pathway from vocational to tertiary qualifications with the University of Southern Queensland.
The agreement was signed by Patrick McKendry, CEO of Careers Australia and Bill Lovegrove, Vice-Chancellor of University of Southern Queensland at the university's Toowoomba campus on Tuesday 21 July 2009 and will guarantee domestic and international diploma graduates a place in a closely related degree at the prestigious university.
"USQ and Careers Australia Group have entered a strategic partnership to provide an educational pathway from vocational to tertiary level qualifications," Director of USQ's Office of External Relations Gary Brady said.
"Students may enter through Careers Australia, undertake vocational training and then continue their studies at tertiary level through USQ."
By way of example, USQ Head of Nursing and Midwifery Professor Cath Rogers-Clark said that the agreement would allow students to not only articulate into the Bachelor of Nursing program but also had a number of other advantages.
"Students have the option of articulating into the Bachelor of Nursing program after a year of vocational study with CAG and can then complete their degree in two years.
"This would also allow these students to work as an endorsed enrolled nurse while they are studying to become registered nurses."

“I wanted to have a career change; I liked the class schedule, which is 2 ½ days a week. That meant I could spend time with my family and have a job for the rest of the week. I also like the environment for learning, being that it was an easier transition from being a mother to an adult student.”
“The Diploma of Business helped me gain the knowledge I needed to achieve my personal best and to be successful. I gained acceptance into the University of my choice thanks to Careers Australia.”
